The drama is adapted from the novel "Little Cardamom" (《小豆蔻》) by Bu Zhi Shi Ke Cai. While it retains the core spirit and "contract marriage" setup, it makes adjustments for the screen.
- Character Arc: The novel's male lead was a more "tool-like" character. The drama makes him more vivid and three-dimensional, adding depth and a contrasting gentleness to his cold exterior.
- Plot Deletion: The drama removes the character Shen Hua (沈画) from the original novel's storyline.
- Plot Adjustment: The novel is known for its frequent "explicit" (开车) scenes. The drama, due to broadcast regulations, cannot directly adapt these scenes but cleverly modifies certain plots to maintain the romantic essence while making character actions more reasonable.
- Plot Restructuring: The drama shifts more focus to the political intrigue (权谋) and emotional depth, adjusting some plot points to better suit the visual medium.
