The story begins in a world called Douluo Continent, where every human awakens a "martial soul" (武魂) at the age of six. Through hunting spirit beasts and absorbing spirit rings, individuals can grow stronger as "spirit masters" (魂师), with the most powerful organizations being the seven great sects. One of these is the Haotian Sect (昊天宗) — the most formidable of them all.

Tang San (played by Zhou Yiran), the story's protagonist, is born into an ordinary blacksmith's family but is anything but ordinary. He possesses a rare dual martial soul — the unassuming Blue Silver Grass (蓝银草) and the formidable Clear Sky Hammer (昊天锤) — and from a young age, he dreams of becoming the strongest spirit master.
