Pursuit of Jade (逐玉)
Plot Overview
"Pursuit of Jade" tells the story of Fan Changyu (played by Tian Xiwei), the eldest daughter of a butcher's family, and Xie Zheng (played by Zhang Linghe), a fallen marquis, who encounter each other by fate during a snowstorm. Changyu's parents have passed away, and she is determined to become the head of her own household to protect her younger sister. Xie Zheng, having narrowly escaped with his life, is concealing his true identity to exact revenge for a blood feud from seventeen years ago. The two, each with their own ulterior motives, stage a fake marriage. What begins as a marriage of convenience, however, gradually transforms into genuine love.
But their love brings a bloody war, and the lovers are forced apart. In a stunning turn of events, the former butcher's daughter picks up her cleaver and charges onto the battlefield. Meanwhile, Xie Zheng, having regained his true identity as the powerful Marquis, fights to protect his country, his people, and the truth. The two are finally reunited on the battlefield, fighting side by side, unafraid of life or death. Together, they expose the truth and bring peace back to their homeland.
Blending the bustling energy of the marketplace with the high-stakes intrigue of the royal court, "Pursuit of Jade" breaks free from the traditional palace drama mold. It follows the emotional journey of the couple: from a contractual relationship of mutual suspicion, to a gradual, affectionate "love-after-marriage" dynamic, and finally to a steadfast partnership where they protect and support each other through the turmoil of war. The drama, with its unique pairing of a "butcher's daughter and a fallen marquis," is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love to conquer all.

The 40-episode series is structured as a clear three-act journey. The first act establishes the unlikely marriage of convenience born out of necessity, the second act deepens their relationship amidst escalating political conspiracies, and the third act throws them into a turbulent battlefield where their love is forged in fire.
Arc 1: The Wedding That Wasn't (Episodes 1–12)
Synopsis After her parents' sudden death, Fan Changyu is left in a tough spot: local law dictates that a woman cannot independently head a household, and her greedy uncle is determined to take over her family's property. To protect her land and her younger sister's future, she makes a bold decision—to find a man to marry into her family. One night, Changyu stumbles upon Xie Zheng, a mysterious, handsome stranger, who is badly wounded. Seeing a chance to solve her predicament, she takes him in and "nurses" him back to health, and he reluctantly agrees to become her "live-in son-in-law". What follows is a hilarious role reversal: Xie Zheng, a powerful general forced to hide, watches in disbelief as his tiny wife brags, "Don't worry, I'll raise you by killing pigs". But their peaceful life soon shatters when assassins arrive. Key Story Beats

Arc 2: A Dangerous Game (Episodes 13–25)
Synopsis As the assassins grow bolder, Xie Zheng is forced to reveal a part of his real identity: he is not a wanderer but the "dead" Marquis of Wu'an, framed for a rebellion seventeen years ago. To survive, he and Changyu leave their small town and head to the capital. In the capital, they must navigate the dangerous waters of the court while maintaining their "husband and wife" facade. Changyu uses her street-smarts to gather information, while Xie Zheng reconnects with his hidden forces. This arc deepens the palace intrigue, introduces the villainous Prince Li Huai'an (played by Ren Hao) and Yu Qianqian (played by Kong Xue'er), and sees the couple's feelings evolve from a mutual contract into an undeniable, heartfelt love. The couple is forced to separate: Xie Zheng must lead the army to stop the rebellion, while Changyu is trapped in the enemy-occupied capital. But she doesn't sit idle. Having learned some martial arts from her husband, she becomes a key figure in the resistance within the city. On the battlefield, Xie Zheng is a cold, efficient, and almost reckless killing machine, fighting as if he no longer cares if he lives or dies. But whispers of his "wife's" bravery and cleverness reach him, bringing a light back to his eyes. The emotional climax occurs when the two armies clash: Xie Zheng, his horse and men killed, is nearly surrounded by enemies. Suddenly, he hears her voice. From the top of the city gate, Changyu appears, holding her "butcher's knife" and shouting. Both armies pause to watch. It moves beyond "will they win the throne?" to "how will they survive to love each other?" It resolves the core tension through a powerful, mutual rescue, proving that their love is not about one saving the other, but about them saving each other and their world.
