Mystic Nine (九门)

Set in the Republican era, the story follows nine powerful families known as the "Old Nine Gates" who guard the city of Changsha. In 1933, a mysterious ghost train arrives at the train station, prompting the leader of the Nine Gates, Zhang Qishan, to investigate. Along with the fortune-teller Qi Tiezui and the opera singer Er Yuehong, he uncovers a suspicious mine outside the city that the Japanese are coveting. His quest leads him to seek medicine for Er Yuehong's terminally ill wife, encountering the spirited Yin Xinyue in Beijing. Together, they unravel the mine's secrets, discovering connections to their family histories and a sinister Japanese plot against Changsha .

The 48-episode series (approx. 45 min each) can be broadly divided into the following main story arcs :

• Act 1: The Mysterious Train & Initial Investigation (Episodes 1-8 approx.): A ghost train arrives in Changsha. Zhang Qishan investigates, finding strange corpses and ancient relics. He seeks help from Er Yuehong, who is reluctant due to his wife's illness. Zhang Qishan, Qi Tiezui, and his deputy begin exploring the suspicious mine, uncovering its dangers .
• Act 2: Journey for the Cure & Meeting Yin Xinyue (Episodes 9-16 approx.): Zhang Qishan travels to Beijing's New Moon Hotel to find a rare medicine for Er Yuehong's wife. There, he meets the hotel heiress Yin Xinyue. His desperate bid costs him a fortune, but he gains her help and affection. They return to Changsha with the medicine .
• Act 3: Personal Loss & Renewed Purpose (Episodes 17-28 approx.): Despite their efforts, Er Yuehong's wife passes away. Grieving, he discovers his family's deep connection to the mine. This leads him to join Zhang Qishan fully. Meanwhile, schemes and betrayals unfold among the Nine Gates .
• Act 4: Unraveling the Conspiracy & The Final Battle (Episodes 29-48): Zhang Qishan, Er Yuehong, and their allies delve deeper into the mine and the "World of the Meteorite." They uncover the full extent of the Japanese conspiracy to destroy Changsha. The story culminates in a final confrontation as they fight to defend their city and uncover the secrets of the Zhang family lineage .
