When the Violin Weeps tells the story of Shi Qi, an internationally renowned violinist who, for four years, has harbored a deep hatred for her husband, Gu Hanshen, believing him responsible for her ex-boyfriend's imprisonment. This leads her to neglect both him and their son. However, when the truth finally surfaces, she discovers that her husband was, in fact, the silent and devoted protector of her family all along. The drama follows her clumsy but sincere journey to make amends and pursue the love she had taken for granted.

The series is an 81-episode short-form drama, with each episode approximately 3 minutes long. While there are no official arc divisions, the story can be broadly understood in four phases:

• Act 1: The Forced Marriage & Deep-Seated Hatred (Episodes 1-20 approx.): At her family's brink of bankruptcy, Gu Hanshen proposes a marriage to save her company. Shi Qi, who already has a boyfriend, believes this is a calculated move by Gu Hanshen, and her resentment deepens when he is sent to prison. • Act 2: Years of Resentment & Neglect (Episodes 21-50 approx.): For four years, Shi Qi remains cold toward her husband and largely absent from their son's life. Focused on her career as an international violinist, she is consumed by her bitterness and fails to see the quiet sacrifices her husband makes for her and their family.
• Act 3: The Truth Unveiled & Atonement (Episodes 51-70 approx.): Shi Qi discovers the truth: her ex-boyfriend was the one who orchestrated her family's downfall. Gu Hanshen was never the villain she imagined but had silently protected her all along. Filled with remorse, she decides to return home and start making amends.
• Act 4: Reconciliation & a Happy Family (Episodes 71-81): Shi Qi embarks on a journey to make things right, learning to communicate with her husband and bond with her son. The series ends on a positive note, with the family finally finding happiness and understanding.
