Plot Overview
Set during the Dali reign of the Tang Dynasty, the story begins when Princess Ningyuan dies mysteriously at a Lantern Festival banquet. Li Peiyi (Bai Lu), a county princess and officer of the Inner Investigation Bureau, and Xiao Huaijin (Wang Xingyue), deputy director of the Astronomical Bureau, are ordered to investigate. Skilled in combat and adept at reading people, Peiyi teams up with the meticulous and brilliant Huaijin to uncover the truth. As they solve a series of eerie palace cases—each tied to the fates of women in the inner court—they gradually uncover the truth behind the massacre of Peiyi's family fifteen years ago. In the end, Peiyi clears her father's name, gains steadfast allies, and earns hard-won redemption.

The drama is adapted from the novel Tang Gong Qi An Zhi Xue Yu She (《唐宫奇案之血玉韘》) by Forest Deer. However, reviews indicate that the drama bears almost no resemblance to the original novel in terms of character settings, story, or even the historical background. While the broad framework of a case-solving narrative remains, the adaptation is extremely loose.
- Complete Overhaul: The drama’s character settings, story, and even the historical era were entirely changed from the original novel. The novel’s premise involved the eldest daughter of former Crown Prince Li Jiancheng dying under mysterious circumstances on her wedding day, while the drama is set in the Zhenguan era and revolves around a completely different set of characters.
- Setting & Character Reset: The era and character lineup were completely swapped out. The drama’s protagonist, Li Peiyi, and her backstory as an orphan of Prince Duan’s mansion are not found in the novel.
- Expanded Case Structure: While the novel is a single case, the drama expanded the story into a series of seven interconnected, standalone cases (unit cases) while retaining a main overarching plot.

- Act 3: Blood Talent & The Auspicious Hour (Episodes 16-23 approx.): The duo investigates the "Blood Talent" case (a human blood scheme) and the "Auspicious Hour" case (a headless mystery). Each case pulls them deeper into the conspiracies of the inner court.
- Act 4: False Gods & The Final Banquet (Episodes 24-34): They tackle the "Not All Gods Are True" case (a human sacrifice scheme) and the final "Seven Stars Mismatch" case (the shocking banquet case).
