Three-Body (三体)
Plot Overview
In the summer of 2007, as Beijing prepares for the Olympic Games, a wave of mysterious suicides among the world's leading physicists plunges the scientific community into turmoil. Nanomaterials researcher Wang Miao is recruited by a secret Joint Operations Center to investigate the "Frontiers of Science," a shadowy organization suspected of being behind the deaths. Following a mysterious countdown and a bizarre phenomenon where the universe itself seems to flicker for him alone, Wang is drawn into a hyper-realistic VR video game called "Three-Body." As he navigates the game's successive, dying civilizations, he discovers a terrifying truth: a hostile extraterrestrial civilization is on its way to invade Earth, and humanity's fundamental sciences have already been crippled. Alongside the grizzled but brilliant Detective Shi Qiang, Wang must race against time to uncover a decades-old conspiracy and unite humanity for its greatest threat.

Deep Dive: Story Arcs & Episode Guide
The first season consists of 30 episodes (≈45 min each) and can be broadly divided into the following arcs:
- Act 1: The Fall of Physics (Episodes 1-6): In 2007, Wang Miao investigates physicist suicides, discovers a haunting countdown in his photographs, and experiences the "universe flicker." He meets Detective Shi Qiang, joins the Joint Operations Center, and is first contacted by Shen Yufei of the Frontiers of Science organization.
- Act 2: The Red Past & The Game (Episodes 7-17): Wang enters the "Three-Body" VR game, witnessing the chaos of a civilization trapped in a three-sun system. The investigation shifts to the mysterious figure of Ye Wenjie, a retired astrophysicist. Her tragic past is slowly revealed through extensive flashbacks to the Cultural Revolution, culminating in her decision at the Red Coast Base.
- Act 3: ETO & Judgment Day (Episodes 18-27): Wang discovers the true scale of the extraterrestrial threat. The "Three-Body" game is exposed as a recruitment tool for a doomsday cult, the Earth-Trisolaris Organization (ETO), led by the disaffected Mike Evans aboard the giant ship "Judgment Day." The organization splits into factions. The operations center prepares for the final assault. Ye Wenjie is brought in for interrogation. The plan to use the "Flying Blade" nanomaterial to slice through Judgment Day without destroying the critical Trisolaris data is set in motion.
- Act 4: The Sophon Lock & The Future (Episodes 28-30): The operation succeeds, securing the Trisolaris data. Wang Miao learns the full truth: the Trisolaran fleet is incoming, and the fundamental particles called "sophons" have locked down human technological progress. The Earth Defense Council is formed, and a desperate plan for humanity's survival begins. The series ends on a bittersweet note of hope and impending doom, setting the stage for the next book, "The Dark Forest."
