The drama is a significant adaptation of the original novel by Yi Bei. While it retains the core premise of a woman discovering her husband's exploitative scheme and her subsequent awakening, the adaptation reportedly makes many changes to the plot, character relationships, and overall tone.
- Plot Restructuring: The original novel's narrative focuses on the lives of four Yu sisters and their respective romantic and family struggles. The drama streamlines the story to center almost entirely on Yu Meng, making it a more focused revenge drama.
- Tone Shift: The novel is described as having a more realistic and nuanced tone regarding marriage and family. The drama amplifies the "suspense" and "thriller" elements, turning it into a high-stakes "revenge" drama with "high-energy reversals".
- Character Arc: The drama significantly expands the "female alliance" storyline, with Yu Meng teaming up with other women to form a "Revenge Alliance". This collective resistance is a more prominent feature in the drama than in the novel.
- Ending Differences: While the novel ends with a "satisfactory" resolution for the sisters, the drama appears to provide a more straightforward and triumphant "comeback" narrative for Yu Meng, emphasizing her complete victory and rebirth
