Plot Overview

The series follows Xiao Mingming (played by Cheng Yi), a young man who once burned with passion for martial arts novels but has since been worn down by the harsh realities of adult life. A quiet and unremarkable office worker, he now finds solace only in writing martial arts stories online.

One day, his company develops an immersive AI-based book-writing system that projects users directly into the world of their own novels. Xiao Mingming inputs a martial arts outline and unexpectedly finds himself transported inside the story — assuming the digital identity of Xiao Qiushui, the overlooked, combat-weak youngest son of a martial arts clan leader. But this is no dream come true. In this treacherous world of jianghu (the martial arts underworld), he faces betrayal, devastating loss — including the brutal slaughter of his best friend, his parents, and over 120 clan members — and endless trials as he is forced to complete the story's plot through his own actions.

As Xiao Qiushui embarks on a quest for revenge, he gradually masters advanced martial arts. During his search for the murderers, he uncovers a bizarre clue: a hidden stack of confidential letters written in simplified Chinese — deeply anomalous in an ancient dynasty that uses traditional characters. This discrepancy leads him to a startling realization: someone else from the real world must also be trapped inside the narrative.

Blending classic wuxia narratives with modern cyber and fantastical elements, the story follows a dual narrative structure — Xiao Qiushui's journey from a reckless, low-skilled swordsman to a principled hero defending his family and country, and Xiao Mingming's parallel journey of rediscovering his own chivalrous spirit through his creation. As the line between fiction and reality blurs, Xiao Mingming must confront not only the enemies within the novel but also the question of who is truly writing whom.

Deep Dive: Story Arcs & Episode Guide

The 40-episode series is structured around a dual-protagonist narrative, weaving between the modern-day struggles of Xiao Mingming and the epic martial arts journey of his fictional counterpart, Xiao Qiushui. The story is divided into three major arcs.

Arc 1: Entering the Jianghu — The Reluctant Transmigration (Episodes 1–12)

Synopsis Xiao Mingming, a disillusioned office worker and struggling online martial arts novelist, participates in his company's experimental AI-powered writing system. He volunteers his own unfinished martial arts manuscript as a test subject, hoping to overcome his creative block. To his shock, the system does not merely assist his writing — it physically projects him into his own story as its protagonist, Xiao Qiushui. But instead of landing in the body of a powerful hero, he finds himself inhabiting a weak, incompetent young man with almost no martial skill. Worse, the system imposes a harsh rule: he cannot return to the real world until his novel reaches a proper conclusion. Trapped between two worlds and forced to navigate a dangerous fictional jianghu while the real world continues on without him, Xiao Mingming must learn to fight, survive, and grow — or be forever lost inside his own imagination. Key Story Beats

  • Xiao Mingming reluctantly enters the immersive writing system, hoping for a creative breakthrough.
  • He discovers he has become Xiao Qiushui, the useless youngest son of a martial arts clan leader.
  • The system traps him inside the story; he cannot leave until his manuscript is complete.
  • He must learn martial arts from scratch, facing humiliation, failure, and constant danger.
  • Early encounters with jianghu enemies nearly kill him, forcing him to confront his own cowardice.
  • He begins to realize that the line between his writing and his lived experience is blurring — and that other real-world individuals may also be trapped inside the narrative.

Arc 2: Tragedy and Transformation — Loss and Awakening (Episodes 13–28)

Synopsis Just as Xiao Qiushui begins to find his footing, tragedy strikes. His parents and over 120 members of his clan are brutally slaughtered. His sworn brother falls in battle. The once-promising path to heroism shatters into a raw, bloody quest for survival and vengeance. Forced to flee, Xiao Qiushui carries the weight of his fallen family and friends. Meanwhile, in the real world, Xiao Mingming's physical body falls into a coma as his consciousness remains trapped inside the story, causing panic among his colleagues and family. As Xiao Qiushui searches desperately for the identities of those who destroyed his clan, he uncovers something deeply unsettling: a hidden cache of confidential letters written in simplified Chinese — an anachronistic impossibility in the ancient setting. This clue forces him to realize that someone else from the modern world is also inside the story, pulling strings from the shadows. Key Story Beats

  • The massacre of Xiao Qiushui's clan devastates him, transforming his journey from simple adventure into a tragic quest for justice.
  • His sworn brother's death pushes him to the brink of despair but also ignites his determination.
  • Xiao Qiushui goes into hiding, training relentlessly while evading his enemies.
  • He discovers the suspicious simplified Chinese letters — the first concrete evidence that another modern person is trapped inside the story's world.
  • The identity of the mysterious other transmigrator becomes a central mystery.
  • Meanwhile, in the real world, Xiao Mingming's prolonged absence causes his physical health to deteriorate, raising the stakes of his virtual journey.

Arc 3: Two Worlds Collide — The Final Confrontation (Episodes 29–40)

Synopsis Having uncovered the existence of another modern person within the story, Xiao Qiushui races to identify this mysterious figure before they can complete whatever scheme brought them here. As he draws closer to the truth, he discovers that the other transmigrator has been manipulating key events from the shadows — perhaps even orchestrating the destruction of his clan. The final arc sees Xiao Qiushui mastering advanced martial arts, confronting his ultimate enemy, and facing the most profound question of all: When the story ends, will he be able to return to the real world? And after everything he has endured, does he even want to leave? The climax brings Xiao Mingming's two identities into a final confrontation, as he must choose between the life he left behind and the world he has fought to protect. Key Story Beats

  • Xiao Qiushui finally uncovers the identity of the other modern transmigrator and their hidden agenda.
  • A climactic martial arts battle determines the fate of the jianghu world.
  • The system that trapped Xiao Mingming begins to destabilize, threatening to trap him permanently.
  • Xiao Mingming is forced to choose between escaping back to his real life or remaining in the story he has come to love — and the people within it.
  • The ending resolves both his real-world personal growth and his fictional heroic journey.
  • Xiao Mingming awakens in the real world, transformed by his virtual experiences, and continues writing with a renewed sense of purpose — using his novels to convey the belief that righteousness brings people together.
