Plot Overview
Set in the Republican era, the story follows Murong Qingyi (Zhang Linghe), the second son of a powerful warlord family who was switched at birth and endured years of abuse from his adoptive father. As a teenager, he escapes and is rescued by Ren Susu (Wang Churan), the daughter of a medicine merchant—but this act of kindness inadvertently leads to the massacre of her entire family. Years later, they reunite and feelings begin to blossom between them. However, Ren Susu is forced to fake her death to save someone else, leaving Murong Qingyi consumed by grief. Three years later, she returns under a new identity—as the fiancée of Murong Qingyi's older brother. - Ending Change: In the novel, the male lead does not die; he falls ill from heartbreak, and the couple reconciles 17 years later. In the drama, the male lead dies in battle, leaving the female lead to survive alone with their child.
