He gradually builds power by strategically creating chaos, exposing an assistant minister of rites, and officially becoming Prince Jing’s strategist.
- Act 2: The Hunt in the Eastern Sea (Episodes 17 – 34): As Mei Changsu executes his plan, he, Prince Jing, and Princess Nihuang work to clear old grudges. Mei Changsu successfully destroys the Ministry of Rites. The campaign goes well, strengthening Prince Jing’s position.
- Act 3: The Victory in Night, The Truth Emerges (Episodes 35 – 48): After a bloody battle, Prince Jing makes enemies of the Crown Prince and Prince Yu. Princess Nihuang suspects Prince Yu is behind the massacre of the Chiyan Army. Prince Jing discovers that Mei Changsu is gravely ill. Mei Changsu and Princess Nihuang finally confess their feelings for each other.
- Act 4: Justice Restored & Unfinal War (Episodes 49 – 54): The emperor falls gravely ill. Prince Jing forces his father to allow an official re-investigation of the Chiyan Army case. Twelve years after their deaths, Mei Changsu presents the confession letters and physical evidence he has gathered, finally clearing the names of his family and the 70,000 Chiyan Army soldiers. However, a new war with a neighboring state begins, and Mei Changsu’s health worsens. He volunteers to lead the army, revealing his true identity as Lin Shu to the nation, and dies on the battlefield shortly after securing victory.
