Ming Dynasty (大明风华)

Loosely adapted from the novel The Chronicle of the Six Eras by Lianjing Zhuyi, Ming Dynasty fictionalizes the life of Empress Sun of the Ming Dynasty. Set during the reign of five emperors across six eras, the story begins in 1402. After the Yongle Emperor successfully usurps the throne, the family of the senior official Jing Qing is executed. His elder daughter, Ruowei, is rescued and grows up in the martial world, while his younger daughter is saved and raised in the imperial palace. Ten years later, Ruowei infiltrates the capital to assassinate the emperor but encounters Crown Prince Zhu Zhanji. Fate intertwines their lives, and Ruowei enters the palace. Witnessing the country's gradual recovery from chaos, she decides to give up her personal vendetta and assist her husband, Zhanji, in governing the empire. After his untimely death, she is honored as Empress Dowager and must protect the empire during perilous times.

• The series spans 64 episodes (approx. 45 minutes each) and covers roughly 40 years, from the Yongle period to the Tianshun period. It can be broadly divided into four main story arcs:
  • Act 1: From Ruins to Revenge (Episodes 1-19): The story opens with the cataclysmic Jingnan Campaign. Sun Ruowei, driven by vengeance for her family's massacre, infiltrates the capital to assassinate the Yongle Emperor. She crosses paths with the strategic Crown Prince Zhu Zhanji, who becomes intrigued by her. This arc follows her shift from a fugitive seeking revenge to a political player thrust into the heart of the court.
  • Act 2: The Turbulent Palace & Parting Sorrows (Episodes 20-40): Ruowei marries the prince and becomes entangled in the fierce struggle for the throne. Key events include the poisoning of the Yongle Emperor, the very brief reign of the subsequent emperor, and Zhanji's decisive, yet brutal, consolidation of power. This arc is marked by palace conspiracies and the devastating price of power, culminating in Zhanji's untimely death and Ruowei's tragic loss.
  • Act 3: Protecting a Child Emperor (Episodes 41-58): Following the emperor's death, Ruowei is named Empress Dowager, responsible for ruling on behalf of her young son. As she navigates the treacherous internal conflicts of the court, she also deals with external threats, including the military campaigns led by the ambitious eunuch Wang Zhen. This act explores the immense pressure and difficult choices involved in safeguarding a dynasty.
  • Act 4: The Final Storm (Episodes 59-64): This arc depicts the catastrophic Tumu Crisis, where the young emperor is captured in battle. A new, weaker emperor is installed in the capital. Ruowei rises as the unwavering center of a beleaguered court, organizing the defense during the Battle of Beijing to save the empire from total collapse.
