Meteor Garden (流星花园)
Plot Overview
Adapted from Yoko Kamio's Japanese manga Boys Over Flowers, this 2018 Chinese remake follows the ordinary but strong-willed Dong Shancai (Shen Yue), a girl from a struggling family who is accepted into the prestigious Ming De University. She immediately clashes with the F4, an elite clique of the four richest and most popular boys in the school, especially its arrogant leader, Daoming Si (Dylan Wang). As Daoming Si develops feelings for her, she finds herself drawn to his quiet best friend, Huaze Lei (Darren Chen), setting off a tumultuous journey of first love, heartbreak, and personal growth. Shancai's courage and defiance eventually win over the F4, but her relationship with Daoming Si faces an even greater threat: his ruthless mother, who will stop at nothing to keep them apart.

Deep Dive: Story Arcs & Episode Guide
The 49-episode series (≈45 min each, Netflix/DVD version) can be broadly divided into four main story arcs:
- Act 1: Enemies to Reluctant Attraction (Episodes 1-12): Shancai starts at Ming De and immediately clashes with the F4, led by the arrogant Daoming Si, after defending a bullied student. Despite the bullying and public humiliation, Shancai's fearless spirit intrigues Si, who develops a crush. Shancai, however, has feelings for the kind and quiet Huaze Lei, who is still pining for his first love. This arc sets up the central love triangle amidst the pressures of the elite university.
- Act 2: Budding Romance and External Obstacles (Episodes 13-28): The romantic tension between Shancai and Si grows as they spend more time together, including a trip to Sanya where their relationship deepens. However, their budding romance is met with strong opposition from Si's powerful mother, who disapproves of Shancai's low social status. Meanwhile, Lei becomes a confidant for Shancai, causing confusion and jealousy as he sorts through his own feelings.
- Act 3: Separation, Rivals, and Tests of Love (Episodes 29-40): Si's mother actively schemes to separate the couple, introducing rivals for their affection and creating dangerous misunderstandings. A new character, Zhou Caina, becomes a point of contention, with the added pressure of an engagement orchestrated by Si's mother, threatening to tear the couple apart. Shancai's resilience is tested as she navigates these challenges, forcing both her and Si to mature in their understanding of love.
- Act 4: Reconciliation, Escape, and a Hard-Won Happy Ending (Episodes 41-49): After a series of final trials, including a kidnapping and a faked death to escape his mother's clutches, Daoming Si makes a bold move to reclaim his freedom and his love for Shancai. In the finale, the couple finally reunites, and their love is reaffirmed as they share a joyful and celebratory wedding ceremony, bringing the story to a satisfying conclusion.
