The story takes place across the "Six Realms of Hexu" , a mystical world divided into six distinct territories that compete for the vital energy source known as "Providence" (福泽). Prince Mingxian of Yaoguang Mountain has disguised herself as a man since the age of thirteen to participate in the annual Qingyun Conference — a martial arts tournament that determines the distribution of Providence — and has remained undefeated for seven consecutive years. Revered by the world as the God of War, she carries the heavy burden of ensuring her realm's survival.

In the tournament's eighth year, a formidable new warrior emerges: Ji Bozai (played by Hou Minghao) from Jixing Abyss, a land of convicts. In the final battle, a mystical force seals Mingxian's spiritual power, and she is soundly defeated solely on martial skill. Overnight, Ji Bozai rises to become the most celebrated new star. Meanwhile, Mingxian discovers that her spiritual veins have been severed by a deadly poison called "The Sorrow That Leaves Heaven" (离恨天) . Her master reveals that a seven-petaled flower has appeared on her spiritual pulse — when the seventh petal falls, her soul will be extinguished. To survive, she must find the antidote "The Dream of Yellow Millet" (黄粱梦) within one year.

Transforming back into her female identity, Mingxian adopts the new name Ming Yi and infiltrates Jixing Abyss as a seemingly fragile fairy attendant, determined to get close to Ji Bozai to search for the cure.
