Fangs of Fortune (大梦归离)

Set during the Zhenyuan era, the accidental death of the Bai Ze goddess, who once governed the realms of humans and demons, causes the Bai Ze Order to go missing, unleashing chaos as demon beasts run rampant and commit bloody crimes in the human world. At this time, the powerful demon leader "Zhu Yan," weary of his eternal existence, disguises himself as Zhao Yuanzhou and voluntarily "surrenders," proposing to help the imperial court establish a demon-hunting bureau to quell the unrest. Wen Xiao, the new generation Bai Ze goddess who harbors both wariness and a mysterious past connection to Zhao Yuanzhou, joins the bureau along with her childhood friend and bureau consul Zhuo Yichen, the aloof former military archer Pei Sijing, and the timid but talented young doctor Bai Jiu. Together, this demon-hunting team confronts mythical creatures drawn from "The Classic of Mountains and Seas," solving a series of bizarre cases while gradually uncovering the brutal truth behind the demons‘ violent resurgence — and the secret that could end Zhao Yuanzhou’s 34,000-year life.

• The 34-episode drama can be broadly divided into four major story arcs:
  • Arc 1: First Encounters (Episodes 1-8): The demon-hunting bureau welcomes Zhao Yuanzhou, leading the disbanded team to reunite and become entangled in the Ghost Bride case. Zhao Yuanzhou surrenders and proposes forming the demon-hunting bureau while Wen Xiao purifies the deceptive demon E Shou. The team becomes trapped in a dream-manipulation spell; Zhao Yuanzhou enters the dream to break the spell, and Ran Yi destroys his own inner core and dies for love, leading to the case being solved but exposing the conspiracy of Lilun, a parasitic demon. A murder at the Mountain God Temple leads to Ying Lei joining the team; the ancient divine beast Cheng Huang re-emerges, and the team enters a mysterious sundial realm.
  • Arc 2: Mysterious Divine Beasts (Episodes 9-18): The team confronts Cheng Huang‘s mind control, uncovers the secrets of the Bai Ze Order, unravels a plague mystery, and reveals the untold past of the first-generation goddess. Cheng Huang is sealed away, and the team resolves to travel to Kunlun. A plague breaks out in Sinan Water Town; the team enters a “coffin dungeon” to rescue people, and the tragic past between Qing Geng and Fei is revealed, with Bai Jiu using his medical skills to cure the plague. The team investigates a mole within their ranks, Zhao Yuanzhou loses control of his demonic energy, and Ying Zhao sacrifices himself to suppress it.
  • Arc 3: Demonic Transformation Crisis (Episodes 19-28): Wen Zongyu‘s true identity as the mastermind is revealed, and Zhuo Yichen enters a countdown toward demonic transformation, leaving the demon-hunting team trapped between internal conflict and external threats. Wen Xiao is framed for murder but uses the sundial to clear her name. The Bai Ze Order is repaired but stolen; Zhuo Yichen is critically injured. Zhuo Yichen succumbs to demonic rampage and voluntarily imprisons himself; the team ventures to the forbidden land of Bingyi to repair the Great Wilderness, and Ying Long gifts a dragon bone to help stabilize Zhuo Yichen’s transformation.
  • Arc 4: Final Sacrifice (Episodes 29-34): The final battle begins as Wen Zongyu‘s power of “endless rebirth” pushes the team to their limits. Zhao Yuanzhou extracts his own inner core to forge the Cloud Light Sword; Lilun’s soul dissipates, and Ying Lei dies saving Bai Jiu. A plague erupts again in Tiandu as Wen Zongyu resurrects. In the final episodes, Zhao Yuanzhou enters his Fangs of Fortune form to defeat Wen Zongyu once and for all, ultimately sacrificing himself to resolve Wen Xiao‘s impending demonic transformation and heal her poisoning, restoring peace at the cost of his own eternal existence.
