The main couple marries, has a child, and lives happily together. However, the secondary couples meet tragic fates. While the drama retains the core "kidnapped bride" setup and the main characters' names, it makes significant changes to the setting, character backgrounds, and plot details.
- Setting Change: The novel was set in the Song Dynasty (with characters named Yelü Lie and Jun Qiluo), but the drama changed it to a fictional fantasy world (Beixuan, Yannan, Xilang) to avoid historical sensitivities.
- Character Arc: The novel's female lead was simply a business prodigy from a wealthy family (running a clothing business like a "Uniqlo chain"). The drama elevated her to a "Master of Hundred Arts" (百工传人) who designs weapons for the king—adding a layer of national conflict and connecting her directly to the male lead's parents' death.
- Character Arc: The novel's male lead, Yelü Lie, was a general of the Liao Kingdom who simply kidnapped the female lead because he was drawn to her. The drama changed him to Xuan Lie, the chief of the Xuan tribe, whose primary motivation is investigating his parents' murder.
- Plot Addition: The drama added the "Master of Hundred Arts" conspiracy storyline and significantly expanded the political intrigue (court politics, internal tribal conflicts, the search for the true killer) to increase dramatic tension.
- Ending Change: The novel ends with the female lead giving birth to twin sons—one inheriting the male lead's position, the other the female lead's family business. The drama changed this to the couple having one daughter and going to the border together to develop trade and promote peace.
Plot Overview
Set in a fictional world divided into three kingdoms, the story follows Jun Qiluo (Angelababy), the eldest daughter of the Jun family in Yannan. Forced to disguise herself as a man to do business, she is taken captive by Xuan Lie (Song Weilong), the chief of the Xuan tribe in Beixuan. The two embark on a northward journey with their own hidden agendas. Through constant tests and mutual wariness, they experience life-and-death trials. As an investigation into a decade-old conspiracy unfolds, their relationship evolves from confrontation to deep affection. This enemies-to-lovers romance combines passion, emotional tension, and cultural clashes.
