Li Yunrui (李昀锐)
Biography
Li Yunrui (李昀锐) is a Chinese actor and singer born on August 24, 1996, in Jingmen, Hubei Province, China. He graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, majoring in Public Administration. He officially entered the entertainment industry in 2015 with a leading role in the film Together With You. Since then, he has starred in various films and television dramas, including Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms (2023), Love Like the Galaxy (2022), The Last Immortal (2023), and Blossom (2024). Li Yunrui didn't break into the industry through a sudden viral moment — he built his reputation piece by piece, as a rare "non-arts-school" actor who graduated from the prestigious Huazhong University of Science and Technology (a 985 university) while also holding the title of a national second-tier basketball athlete. His clean-cut, gentle looks and naturally restrained acting style won him the nickname "the most refreshing face in C-ent" (内娱舒肤佳). But it was his 2024 costume drama The Blossoming Love (Nine-Tassel of Purple) that finally turned him into a household name. Playing the stoic yet heartbroken Song Mo, he took over social media with his poised presence and "white-haired" look, finally making the transition from a promising supporting actor to a certified leading man. Breakthrough Role The Blossoming Love wasn't Li's first appearance on screen, but it was the one that fully showcased his growth as a performer. He plays Song Mo, a quiet and honorable general who suffers the annihilation of his entire family and is tricked into a marriage of convenience. After years of playing memorable supporting roles — such as the sly scholar Yuan Shen in Love Like the Galaxy, the loyal bodyguard Gao Shen in West Out of the Yumen Gate, and the bitter school heartthrob Shao Jiang in The Oath of Love — this marked his first major leading role in a hit costume drama. His fight scenes, honed from the grueling boot camp training for Fengshen and his athletic background, were praised for their smoothness and precision. In November 2024, the show became a massive hit, accumulating over 1.8 billion streams and earning him nominations for Best Actor at several major awards. Public Perception Li Yunrui has built a reputation as a hardworking and extremely versatile actor. He is a noted "workaholic," currently sitting on a pile of upcoming projects that range from modern military dramas to gritty youth realism — a clear sign of his determination to move beyond the idol genre. Off-screen, his thoughtful and grounded personality has won him a loyal fanbase. He is frequently seen in public without an entourage, and fans have built his image around genuineness and warmth rather than hype. In a 2026 interview with New Weekly, Li said, "I don't want to be a traffic star. I want to become an actor with real works and real characters". Yet, for an actor of his stature, he also carries a polarizing weight. Audiences often wrestle with his perceived "limited screen presence." Many critics argue that while he has the lead actor looks, his voice projection and emotional charisma often feel underwhelming, making him a flawed but fascinating talent — someone whose imperfections make him more human and whose trajectory feels more like a slow build than a rapid explosion.
